Since we've got a little extra time, we've entered a contest called In My Backyard through CIR Realty. If you have been unable to support us financially, here's an opportunity for you to chip in. We could really use the $5000!! Would you please vote for us? You can only vote once. Our project name is Let's All Play 2gether! Please share!! Tell everyone you know to vote! We finally have an update and it's both good and bad. The bad news is that the construction of our new playground has been delayed. This is mainly due to City of Calgary seasonal employees finishing their contracts and therefore running out of time to start the construction, but we've also needed time to finalize cash and in-kind donations. The good news is that this gives us more time to apply for grants and continue fundraising. We are now looking at an April 2019 build date. Postponing the build date will ensure that we get the best playground we possibly can! We will keep you posted!
So if you've seen the July edition of The Horizon, you may have noticed that it said that the City would be removing the old playground mid-July. And if you've walked by the old playground lately, you may have noticed that... well, it's still there! We are currently waiting for all the stars to align in terms of the City's involvement and work to be done by their seasonal employees (who's contracts end soon), our final budget numbers, last minute design changes, in-kind donations from various suppliers, and negotiations with our playground equipment providers. As soon as we have an update, we will announce it! While this is frustrating for us, it does give us more time to continue to fund raise.
Is this not the cutest little entrepreneur you've ever seen?! His name is Gabriel and he's 4 years old. Four years old!! He raised $105 with his lemonade stand and donated it all to your new playground. 😀💜 Way to go Gabriel!!
Well it's been a while since we updated this blog! We have been pounding the pavement and receiving lots of support and donations!! We are hovering around the $400,000 mark right now.
Today, with the 58th Thorncliffe Scouts, the 501rst Legion, and the Rebel Legion, we made an appearance at the Thorncliffe Greenview Neighbour Day celebration to ask for donations in exchange for popcorn and a photo op with a Shadow Trooper or a Jedi!
We're SO excited to announce that we've been awarded the $125,000 CFEP Grant!! From the Alberta Culture and Tourism website: Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) funding provides financial assistance to acquire, build, purchase, repair, renovate, upgrade or expand sports, recreational, cultural or other related public-use community facilities.
CFEP aims to foster healthy, vibrant communities across Alberta. The program has been designed to support organizations as they take action to contribute and create opportunities for Albertans to engage with their communities.
Sarah Offin from Global News did a great job with this story. It feels great to get the word out!
